Cheese in Istria is traditionally served with aged balsamic vinegar and olive oil. There is the inevitable dry fruit: dry figs, dates, walnuts, pistachio nuts and chestnuts.
If you want to take a step forward, serve cow’s milk and mixed milk cheese with acacia honey or some other mild and delicate meadow honey, whereas sheep’s milk cheese is best served with sage, chestnut or forest honey. Other pairing ideas include various preserves or jams, such as shallot or apple jam, bell pepper and chilli pepper spread or eggplant spread.
We dare you to try serving cheese with some of the amazing seasonal accompaniments like fresh strawberries, figs, grapes, apples and peaches. Complete with well-chosen wines, the perfect cheese platter turns into a genuine feast for the palate.
